About Fly Fishing from Lake Como

What Can you Expect from Fly Fishing from Lake Como?

Lake Como, one of Italy’s most iconic destinations, attracts numerous American tourists for its stunning beauty and exclusivity, as well as offering unmatched opportunities for fly fishing in its nearby rivers and streams. This location is perfect for couples seeking a romantic retreat in the heart of nature. Just 1.5 hours from Milan and about 1 hour from Bergamo, the lake offers a unique combination of adventure and relaxation.

Fly fishing can be practiced in the Valtellina region, on the Adda and Mera rivers, in Val Chiavenna, as well as in various secondary streams and alpine lakes accessible by helicopter. The fishing season runs from March 1st to December 8th, but outings are limited to certain days of the week: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Fridays added starting June 1st.

Fishing methods available include nymph, dry fly, streamer, and dropper, with anglers able to catch species such as Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Marmorata Trout, and Grayling. What makes this destination unique is the ability to fish even during the spring thaw and early summer, when fishing is not possible in other locations.

Starting June 1st, anglers can enjoy fly fishing in some remote alpine lakes, accessible only by helicopter, providing an exclusive experience in the breathtaking landscapes of the Italian Alps.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The ideal duration to enjoy fishing from Lake Como is 5 nights with 4 days of fishing. During this time, you can explore two rivers in the valley, a mountain river, and take a helicopter fishing excursion to a mountain stream or an alpine lake. Many anglers also opt for 7 nights and 6 days of fishing while staying at Lake Como. Others, traveling through the region, may choose to stay just 2 nights with a single day of fishing. You can also extend your stay, as companions or anglers on their rest days can enjoy personalized guided activities such as cultural tours, winery visits, hiking, or sampling the local gastronomy. Our goal is to provide you with an authentic experience, allowing you to discover Italy with the help of English-speaking local guides who are passionate about their region.

There’s no need to bring your own fishing gear, as rental waders, rods, and reels are included in the trip price. However, if you prefer, you are welcome to bring your own equipment. The guide will provide the necessary flies, which are included in the total cost.

We also handle fishing license arrangements, but daily permits must be paid directly to the guide, as they vary by location and cannot be prepaid or managed in advance.

For guided fishing activities, we recommend wearing comfortable outdoor clothing, such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Additionally, warm clothing is essential, as temperatures in the Alps can change rapidly, even if the weather initially seems mild. Your guide will inform you of any additional gear requirements before the activity begins.
If you’re unsure about the best rod to use:

• For dry fly fishing, we recommend a 9-foot, 4/5wt rod.
• For nymph fishing, a 10/11-foot, 2/3wt rod is ideal.

Regarding flies, these are included in the price. They are hand-tied by the guides and specifically chosen for their high effectiveness in our waters.

We provide a variety of activities for companions or anglers on rest days. These activities start and end at the hotel and typically last around 8 hours. Available options include:

• Cultural tours
• Winery visits and gastronomic activities
• Hiking through national and natural parks

Our aim is to ensure an enjoyable and entertaining stay for both anglers and their companions.

Yes, for longer trips, we recommend combining 3 or 4 days at this destination with 3 or 4 days at one of our other two destinations. Depending on the time of year, we can advise you on the perfect combination.
Trips are generally not canceled due to bad weather, as Trento is well-equipped for fly fishing even after heavy rainfall in the preceding days. However, if fishing is deemed unfeasible, we will contact you as soon as possible and offer the option to cancel with a full refund, but only in cases where fishing is impossible. We also provide alternatives such as cultural, gastronomic, or hiking activities, always seeking a solution that benefits both parties.

Payment and Refunds
The trip cost is paid in two parts: a 50% deposit upon booking confirmation and the remaining 50% at least 90 days before the trip. Payments can be made via bank transfer, credit card, or debit card through a secure payment gateway. Failure to complete payment within the established time frame will be considered a cancellation by the traveler.

Cancellation or Modification by the Traveler
If the traveler cancels less than 90 days before the start of the trip, they will lose 100% of the trip cost unless a substitute participant is found. For cancellations made more than 90 days in advance, 50% of the trip cost will be forfeited, while the remaining 50% will be refunded or credited toward future trips.
