Currently, it is mainly introduced in tourist fishing areas through restocking with triploid specimens, minimizing ecological risks. The initial restocking with fertile specimens led to some naturalized populations, such as in the Serchio River basin in Tuscany. However, these populations are weak and inbred due to a lack of genetic diversity.

Although not native, the Rainbow Trout has had a positive impact on sport fishing tourism in various regions of Italy.
